SPI Real-Time Clock and Calendar IC with 96-Byte NV SRAM for Embedded Timekeeping Applications
The DS1305EN+T&R is a real-time clock (RTC) and calendar IC designed to provide reliable timekeeping in microcontroller-based systems. Developed by Analog Devices (formerly Maxim Integrated), this device communicates with host controllers through a high-speed SPI serial interface, making it suitable for embedded applications that require fast and efficient data transfer. The RTC maintains accurate tracking of seconds, minutes, hours, day, date, month, and year, including automatic leap-year compensation.
The device also integrates 96 bytes of non-volatile SRAM, allowing systems to store configuration data, system parameters, or small logs while maintaining data integrity even during power loss. The DS1305 includes programmable alarms, square-wave output, and battery backup capability to ensure continuous timekeeping when the main power supply is unavailable. Packaged in a compact TSSOP-20 form factor, it is ideal for industrial controllers, data loggers, and embedded monitoring systems.
